Massimo Vignelli

massimo Massimo Vignelli was born in 1931 in Milan ,Italy  and has woked in a number of areas ranging from package design to housewear design to furniture design to public signage to show room design through vignelli associates wich he co-founded with hid wife, “he said if you can design one thing you can design evrything “. As he was starting off he was interested and influenced by some of the great architects of the day. He went on to study architecture at politecnioco di milano and later at the universita di architettura venice . In 1966 he started a new branch of his company in new york unimark international which quickly became one of the worlds largest design firms in the world the firm went to design some of the worlds most recognizable corporate identities including American Airlines, new york city sub way system, he also designed the way finding system for the dc metro and suggested the name metro.images

In 1971 he resigned from unimark because of the company diversifieing  rather than focusing on design soon after he and his wife started vignelli associates he and his wife continue to work from their new york office . vignelli was involved with filmmaker gary hustwit in the documentary Helvetica about the typeface of the same name he also updated his new york city subway map.

He has worked for ibm , knoll,bloomingdale and American air linesmassimo1
